Capestang House Summary

Maison du Monde is in the heart of this beautiful village dating back to roman times. The village centre (2 minute walk) is dominated by the beautiful church and square where there is a twice weekly market (Wednesday and Sunday) and where there are the two bars and restaurants. The church is said to be a duplicate of the cathedral in Narbonne. There are at least 6 restaurants in walking distance of the house in the summer, useful when you are in the heart of the wine growing area!! One of the restaurants (a 2 minute walk) is in the courtyard of the local winemaker and and the indoor tables are placed around the vats. Luckily the bank is next door which has a machine so it is easy to draw cash. Changing money in anything but large towns can be complicated as can using travellers cheques!! To the other side of the house and a two minute walk is the Canal du Midi port of Capestang. It is lovely to have a picnic by the Canal in the shade of the plane trees and watch the boats go by.

Maison du Monde has six bedrooms. This option is for 3 bedrooms. If you wish to hire the 6 please use the next heading. The kitchen has a range cooker, american style fridge/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher, microwave, separate drinks fridge with a huge selection of utensils The library/TV room (42inch TV) with most sky channels, has a large selection of DVDs, videos, board games and books for ages 0 to adult. The separate sitting room seats 8+ (with WiFi) and there is also a downstairs shower room. To the first floor the master bedroom has a double bed, daybed and ensuite bathroom with separate shower and bath. There is a further double bedroom and twin bedded room and bathroom with a huge shower. The private walled garden houses the swimming pool and outside eating area (with 3 original wine cuves). It is totally secluded. There is also a courtyard which is a suntrap and has a covered summer kitchen, a hammock area or if required can be used to park up to 3 cars.

Capestang is in the heart of the Cathar country. You may be familiar with the Da Vinci code, Labrynth by Kate Moss. If not you must look up the amazing history of this are whiich is filled with fortified villages and ancient ruins. Fantastic sights nearby include Minerve, Carcassonne, Aigues Mortes, Beziers, Cap d'agde, Narbonne, Rennes le Chateau. Spain, Pyrenees, Coullioure and many more. The two nearest beaches are Valras Plage and Norbonne plage. These have sandy beaches that run for miles and where you can find great ice cream shops. For children there is the animal reserve at Sigean, Agro branching, ice skating, canoeing and much more. For foodies there are the great food markets and the famous indoor food market at Narbonne. Fresh fish is plentiful as is the locally grown fruit and vegetables. It is a joy to cook. Golf is not far and for those looking to relax you can sit by the canal and watch the boats go by or by the pool with a book. For retail therapy Beziers and Narbonne.

  • Payment can be made in Euros. Please ask for details if you wish to pay with euros. A deposit of 25% on confirmation of booking. Payment in full 12 weeks before commencement of rental. Failure to pay will result in loss of booking and deposit. Deposit of £300 which will be returned at the end of the rental provided no damage has occurred. Cleaner can be arranged to come in during the visit and this to be paid for by the renters. Payable 15 euros per hour.
  • For small children. There are two high chairs in the Summer kitchen. One is a trip-trap chair and the other a copy of the same model so both can be altered for height/age. There is a pushchair, car seat (3 years plus) booster seat and a cot available on request. Further pushchairs or boosters may be available on request. Each Master bedroom is very large and has plenty of space with a cot in it. They both also have a sofa/daybed with bedding underneath in case children want to sleep with their parents.
  • Internet is available through WIFI and this works throughout the house with a wireless printer in the kitchen.

Notes: No smoking in the house, however, if you wish to smoke there is the outside covered summer kitchen with table and chairs which is perfect. The kitchen also has a large section of plastic plates and glasses for outdoor use. These can also be used for small children. There is also available, on request, a pushchair and car seat 3+. The outside kitchen has two high chairs (trip-trap) which can be used from baby up to 10 years by adjusting the seat. The spanner is taped underneath. There is a barbeque in the summer kitchen. There is also a table and chairs outside if you wish to dine outside but please use the plastic plates and glasses as glass travels and can cut feet easily. There is also a hammock in the courtyard!! The house is in the middle of the village which means older children can have a larger amount of freedom being able to walk almost everywhere.
