Though in a very peaceful position with a view of the countryside, this villa has the added benefit of being just off the main motorway that connects Siena and Florence, this villa rental is in an excellent position for taking day trips throughout the historical towns of the region, from little hill towns such as Monteriggioni, Volterra, and Barberino Val d'Elsa to the more well-known attractions of Siena and Florence. The nearest small town is Poggibonsi, a town of some importance throughout the ages because of its strategic position at the point where the Staggia and Elsa rivers meet. As a result, it has been repeatedly attacked, demolished, and rebuilt-- which all makes for some interesting architectural history! Sights in town include the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the Town Hall, the characteristic main road, and the 14th century convent of San Lucchese. Along with various frescoes, the remains of the Saint himself are also housed here, and on April 28 the town holds a festival in his honor-- and his body is brought out to lead the procession! Needless to say there are plenty of other villages throughout the area, just waiting to be explored!
