Details for Nordurnes

Through the separate entrance room you enter the one room cottage and take in the views into the landscape and onto volcano Hekla. The bright room has a double door onto the deck and large windows. The kitchenette functiones well and you can enjoy the view onto Hekla from the dining table. The seperate bathroom has a shower and WC. Up the 'chicken ladder' and you reach the open sleeping loft with 2 low beds (we can add 1 mattress if you wish): it is cozy here and in wintertime you can look straight out into the night sky and - with a little luck!- enjoy the NORTHERN LIGHTS! The sofa downstairs pulls out into a bed (140cm wide). Around the house are open countryside and horse pastures. You have your own piece of Iceland here! (The other cottage Bjalli is 700m away and cannot be seen from here.) Information on day trips provided!

  • Birdwatching from the window or from our paths: during summer up to 25 species within 1 week!
    The harbour Landeyjarhöfn (65km away) offers the possibility to take a ferry to the WESTMAN ISLANDS in 30 min. There you can amongst other things take a boat trip (puffins, whales etc. in summer), visit the volcanic eruption site which is still steaming or rent a Segway.
  • We gladly give you tips and advise for your stay here in Iceland! A list of possible day trips will be e-mailed to you and is also in the house. Plus maps and other information!

  • Upstairs on the sleeping loft (up the chicken ladder) there are 2 low beds, it is comfortable for 2, or 1 plus mattress (upon request). Downstairs is a sleeping sofa (140cm wide, queen size). Bed linen provided. During winter you need just a little luck and you could see Northern Lights, from your bed! Ideal spot as there is no ambient lighting in the area. The house is well insulated and heated and very cozy in fall and winter, see recommendations!

Notes: The kitchen is compact but well equipped. Garden furniture is on the terrace and a coal grill. Drinking water directly from the tap, it doesn´t get better than this! Children love sleeping upstairs in the loft. They have to be old enough to climb up the chicken ladder savely. Maps of the region and tips and info on things to do and day trips are in the house! CD player and radio, playing cards, candles. Self catering but some essential herbs and spices are in the house. We will give you some fresh eggs from our own happy icelandic chickens! On our land of 130 hectare there are some horse pastures and walking paths which you are welcome to explore, streams and migrating birds nesting everywhere during summer: BIRDWATCHING! During winter you need just a little luck and you could see NORTHERN LIGHTS. Ideal spot as there is no ambient lighting in the area. We gladly give you any advise or assistance while you are staying here!
