The palace and its history: The palace in which the apartments are located was built in the 17th century on the 16th century Spanish city ramparts. In the 18th century it became a college for the education of young aristocrats. In 1849 the palace became the property of Giulio Fabrizio Tomasi di Lampedusa, the prince-astronomer who was the model for the main character in 'The Leopard', the world famous novel written by the prince's great-grandson Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. The palace was the last home of the author, until his death in 1957, and is now the home of his adoptive son, who has carefully restored it.

Enjoy Saint Rosalia's fireworks!: The mid-12th century virgin hermit Rosalia was adopted as patron saint of Palermo in the 17th century after the discovery of her bones, on 14 July 1624, ended a dreadful plague which ravaged Palermo. In recognition and thanksgiving every year since 1624 a spectacular festival, the Festa di Santa Rosalia or Festino, takes place from 11 to 15 July. All kinds of festivities go on throughout the historic centre, including plays, music, and food. The Festino is the last of Europe's great baroque festivals. On July 14 the saint's statue is taken from the Cathedral and solemnly put on a gigantic triumphal chariot, wonderfully decorated, in the form of a ship. The procession crosses the city amid thick crowds of jubilant people. As soon as the sumptuous chariot reaches the sea at the Foro Italico, just below our property, an amazing firework display explodes in a breathtaking fantasy of light and sound that lasts one hour. A unique, unforgettable experience not to be missed!

It's simply beautiful, perfect in all ways. I felt like I was coming home every day instead of just visiting. The thing Ioved the most about it is the location; right on the sea, the park across the street, Via Vittorio Emanuele right around the corner and the close proximity to the Quattro Canti.
