Large great room with queen sofa-bed and queen futon. Master bedroom has king bed that can be split to extra-long twins, plus day bed with trundle. Second bedroom has king bed that can be split to extra-long twins. Third bedroom has queen bed that can be split to extra narrow twins. If guests want to split beds they must split them upon arrival and re-attach prior to departure.

One bathroom has over-sized Jacuzzi tub; second bathroom has shower/tub combination.
This home is located near the end of Summerhome Park Road with no road noise. In fall, winter, and spring, this is a very quiet, tranquil location. In the summer (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day) this area turns into a lively family vacation destination: Community lodge with food, wine, beer, ice cream, pool table and parties.

Outdoor movies three nights a week; children's arts and crafts classes. Blackberries and wild plums abound; hiking in the adjacent forest. No dogs on the beach. SUMMER ROTATION DAY: FRIDAY

Shangri-La is a sunny river-front home, completely remodeled, with river views and river access to a community beach across the street, along with a double and two single kayaks. With a ten-person hot tub, fireplace with gas insert, high-speed Internet access and unlimited domestic toll and long distance telephone service, this home offers a full range of amenities for all seasons. Two decks, with river views, offer loungers for everyone and a charcoal barbecue; there is also a children's playhouse and a fenced yard with lawn.

Sleeping ten, Shangri-La has a master bedroom with king bed and daybed with trundle, a second bedroom with king bed, and a third bedroom with queen bed. The living room includes both a queen sleeper and a queen futon. The king beds and the queen bed can be divided into twins, providing a total of ten sleeping spaces, ideal for working or recreational retreats and larger groups of singles. The great room provides plenty of room for ten people to congregate and there is a dining table seating ten as well. There is an over-sized Jacuzzi tub in one bathroom and a combination tub/shower in the other bathroom.

In fall, winter, and spring, Shangri-La offers end-of-the-road tranquility and quiet, a meditative retreat for those seeking a very peaceful location. In the summer, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, this area becomes a lively family vacation destination known as Summerhome Park. Along with free outdoor movies three times a week, children's arts and crafts classes, and Saturday night parties at the Lodge for adults, the Lodge offers beer, wine, ice cream, a pool table, and games. There will be a calendar of events and activities in the information binder in the home. All the activities are available for guests at Shangri-La and guests will find this summer community to be extremely friendly and fun, a nostalgic return to the simple recreational days of the 1950's.

Shangri-La is located at the end of Summerhome Park Road, around five minutes from a major wine-tasting area. Downtown Guerneville is a fifteen minute drive and, of all our large homes, Shangri-La is the closest to Santa Rosa and Healdsburg.

Please note: Dogs are not permitted on Summerhome Park Beach. If guests separate any of the beds at Shangri-La, they will need to make up those beds with appropriate linens for their stay, wash the extra linens, and re-attach the beds before they depart.

Forestville is most convenient to wineries, Sebastopol, and Santa Rosa, followed by Guerneville and Monte Rio.
There is little difference in temperature between Guerneville and central Monte Rio. Forestville will be slightly warmer, while Duncans Mills and Cazadero will be slightly cooler. There is no air-conditioning here (with a few exceptions): the ocean breezes provide natural cooling at night and homes in warmer areas have fans. The Northwood golf course area is 2 - 3 miles west of Guerneville and, although this is technically Monte Rio, these homes are as close to Guerneville as they are to central Monte Rio.
Duncans Mills is close to the ocean, with some marine influence, yet still enjoys warm, sunny days in the summer.
Cazadero is redwood forest, with an all-year creek running through it; in general the most secluded homes will be found here.
Homes along the river are generally not as private as the homes along the creeks or in the forest, although there are exceptions. The river homes are rarely fenced and most will have some small degree of road noise since River Road, running along the river, is the main artery for the area. We do have some river homes free of all road noise. If this is a major issue for you, please ask us.
There is a 24-hour Safeway and a health food store in Guerneville and smaller markets in Forestville and Monte Rio, as well as a general store in Cazadero. On Hwy 166 north of Sebastopol, Andy's Market is worth a stop. There are video rentals in all towns except Duncans Mills. Guerneville has bicycle rentals. The best shopping is in Guerneville and Duncans Mills.
Boat rentals are in Guerneville, Monte Rio, and Duncans Mills. Boating depends upon river and weather conditions and many homes with boats have seasonal docks. We cannot guarantee boating will be possible or safe anytime other than mid-June through mid-September.
