Area:Trout Creek is in an area where 85% of the land is national forest. Some people call it North Carolina's best kept secret. Two lakes, Fontana and Santeetlah are nearby, so rent a pontoon boat and relax or fish with unspoiled mountain views in every direction.
More Things to Do: If you come to the mountains for the beauty of nature and less tourists, this is the place, yet a short distance away brings you to grocery stores and whatever else you'd need. We are about an hour from Pigeon Forge in one direction and the Biltmore Estate in the other. This means you can enjoy all the wonders of the mountains, yet if you desire to see George Vanderbilt's estate in Asheville or visit Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, you're close enough to do so without spending a fortune in gas.
More and More Things to Do: You can hike right along the Appalachian Trail; it's a few minutes down the road. You can go whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, Ocoee, and more. You can ride a horse along the Fontana Lake region. You can visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can tube at Deep Creek. There are waterfalls to view, and the Blue Ridge Parkway or the Cherohala Skyline are both close by. Enjoy the virgin forest at Joyce Kilmer. See Cades Cove or drive down the Meadow Road to peek in the windows of log cabins from yester year. The Great Smokies Railroad is right in Bryson City. Hop aboard! Try a little fly fishing in the numerous streams. Rent a pontoon boat and relax on Lake Santeetlah. Drive along mountains roads to find artist galleries galore, visit an auction right out of the fifties, or discover a hidden little out-of-the-way spot all your own for a picnic in paradise. Saturday night? Go for some mountain music at the Stecoah Center. What a great vacation!
