Breckenridge, Colorado is the place to go if you want to spend some time communing with the Great Outdoors. Breckenridge began as a booming mining town, the first permanent settlement on the western slope of the Continental Divide. When the gold and silver began to wane, the town pursued skiing as a method for bringing in visitors, and a new 'boom' was created. Today, Breckenridge is a year round vacation destination for anyone who loves spending time with Mother Nature.

Ski: Skiers, snowboarders, and cross-country enthusiasts flock to Breckenridge Ski Resort, spread out over four mountains on the town's western side. All in all, there are over 2,000 ski able acres, with 140 trails that can be reached by over 25 chair lifts. Breckenridge's early skiing reputation was based on its catering to beginner and intermediate skiers. Recently, however, the area has gained fame as being a top-flight area for expert skiers as well. The resort has an extensive women's learn-to-ski program, one of few in the nation that is taught by women for women of all abilities. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do around Breckenridge when the snow melts. White River National Forest encompasses the boundaries of Summit County and provides an endless wonderland for active exploration. Whether you have a passion for hiking, horseback riding, or mountain biking, you can practice them all in White River.

Golf: A day's itinerary in Breckenridge can include hiking, skiing, boating, snowboarding, fishing, sailing, parasailing, golfing, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, and anything else you can possibly imagine! Before hitting the slopes (or mountains, lakes, rivers, and streams) take some time to visit scenic Breckenridge National Historical District, an area in downtown Breckenridge that has been preserved in all its Victorian glory. Over 254 buildings dating from the 1880s and 1890s line the streets, and are filled with restaurants, shops, and commercial businesses. In the summer the Summit Historical Society gives a guided tour of the area giving details about Breckenridge's history, and how the historical district was shaped by it. The tour leads visitors past the 1875 Edwin Carter Museum, home to one of the area's first successful miners. Skiing is the undisputed king of active endeavors in Breckenridge.

Guest Book: If you are an aquatics lover, beautiful Dillon Reservoir (also called Dillon Lake) is ready with sailing, pontoon boating, pleasure craft cruises, and canoe and kayak rentals. Anglers have plenty of fishing holes to choose from. The South Platte, Arkansas, Eagle, Colorado, and Blue Rivers are all highly regarded as teeming with fish. The Colorado Rockies supply golfers with incredible views that match the difficulty of the area's golf courses. The Breckenridge Golf Club, designed by golfing legend Jack Nicklaus, is set in a beautiful valley surrounded by the Rockies. Due to the thin air, your drives will fly farther. Be careful though, as wayward tee shots can find rivers, ponds, and even the occasional beaver! More golfing action can be had at nearby Copper Creek Golf Course, which is part of Copper Creek Resort. Designed by Pete and Perry Dye, the course offers spectacular views of the Ten Mile Range. Golf Digest raved about the course in its 2000-2001 places to play issue.
