If you are interested in the military there's the Imperial War Museum a bus ride away and The Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum. The Cutty Sark an old tea clipper that used to race back from the far east with exotic cargos 'Round the Horn' is open, as a museum -All these things are just down river at Greenwich Park.
