Lubec Cottage Details
NATURE: This serene cottage is close to South Lubec Beach, which is accessed by nearby Bar Road. South Lubec Beach is known for its birdwatching as it is on the Eastern Migratory Pathway. A State of Maine Land Preservation area is behind the cottage and along the beach, making it an exceptionally viable place to watch migrating warblers, sparrows and shore birds. Hiking trails abound in the area and you will not be disappointed with the 97 miles of shoreline in Lubec. Dramatic cliffs, sandy coves, several long beaches and spectacular sunrises will be a few of your vistas along with eagle sightings, seals and possibly whales depending on the time of year (July to October are the best times to see whales). Minke, Finback, Humpback and even the rare Right Whale visit our Atlantic waters.
ART & MUSIC: The area is unique and the last stretch of undeveloped coastline on the East Coast. Artists appreciate the area for its solitude and fascinating shifts of light. Music, art and photography workshops are offered in the summer. Summerkeys, a music school, offers excellent free concerts weekly in the summer.
REST & RELAXATION: There are no traffic lights in Lubec and really, no 'traffic' as we know it in the modern world. You will be swept away by the other world feeling of Lubec (we are often known as 'the other Maine'). The fog, the light, the quiet all giveway to a sense of tranquility. Whether you come to explore for the week, write or read we think you will find Lubec to be the perfect interlude in a busy world.
