This is a small community of homes where locals, retired folk and vacationers love to relax and kick back. You can snorkel during the day and view the lava flow at night, only a few miles away. Then try the hot ponds right down the road - these are thermally heated fresh and sea water ponds, usually about 75-80 degrees naturally. Or, surf the waves at Pohoiki and Isaac Hale park just a few miles away. If you like clothing optional beaches, Kehena Black Sand Beach is not to be missed!

The Village of Pahoa: The small, eclectic town of Pahoa still has clapboard sidwalks and old wooden buildings. But it has some of the best restaurants on the island. From authentic Italian to real Mexican fair and wonderful Thai food too. There are banks, small grocery stores, a health food store, boutiques, a hardware store and other small businesses. it's only 11 miles from the Kapoho Ohana Hale. On Sundays, visit the Keaau Farmer's Market on Hiway 130 between Pahoa and Keaau. You will find crafts, local foods, a vast variety of local fruits and vegetables and an interesting mix of people!
