Saugatuck / Douglas Cottage Details
There is a TV in the living room and also in each bedroom. The cottage living room and bedrooms feature original and restored hardwood floors. La Maisonette is truly a special place. If you’re visiting to shop, visit the many festivals, or to enjoy the restaurants and galleries, then this is the place for you. This is simply a convenient location (maybe 50-75 yards from downtown), and is a popular place to stay in town. Walk to Saugatuck’s inviting downtown, and enjoy the restaurants, shops and galleries all within a few short blocks. Then enjoy the quite ambience as you stroll the short walk home. Or drive a short distance to Oval Beach, Douglas or the many surrounding attractions. You’ll love La Maisonette! Families as well as couples enjoy this area's safe and friendly environment and many attractions and amenities. Easy stroller access to the well-equipped downtown children's playground is one reason parents love this location.
In addition to its many art galleries, Saugatuck hosts the nationally-acclaimed Waterfront Film Festival each June. The Waterfront Film Festival is rated by SAG Indie, the Screen Actor’s Guild, as one of the top 5 film festivals along with Sundance, Cannes, South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, and Cinevegas in Las Vegas. The Saugatuck Center for the Arts is ACROSS THE STREET and hosts outstanding musicians, concerts, plays and art exhibits in its theatre and gallery every weekend. This cottage is also across the street from the very popular Green Market held every summer Friday featuring local farmers and artisan producers, aimed at providing fresh, high quality food. The Keewatin Maritime Museum is the home of the retired steamer SS Keewatin, a 350-foot Titanic-era steamship vessel that just turned 100 years old and houses an intriguing maritime museum!
Pick and enjoy eating your own fresh and luscious blueberries or apples from nearby fields, or perhaps visit the local winery or microbrewery for a fun-filled afternoon. If you enjoy the outdoors or sports, this area offers three 18-hole championship golf courses and scenic dunes and shorelines for hiking, biking, or walking. On one hike, you can climb 282 steps to the top of Mount Baldhead, a sand dune featuring a stunning view of the harbor and lake! Fishing charters offer the opportunity to fish for salmon, trout, pike, and perch. Saugatuck is well-known for its many art galleries (it’s consistently named one of American's top 25 arts destinations) and its wide array of dining choices including both gourmet and casual family restaurants. This area is the home of great summer memories, spectacular color in the Autumn, and inviting snow-mantled streets for the winter holidays and weekends.
Other Activities: Boating, Wildlife Viewing, Mini Golf
