Chappaquiddick House Details
History: This home is among the oldest existing structures on Chappaquiddick. It was thought to be the site of the Indian Meetinghouse used for gatherings and exchange of supplies. The stone walls were built by the Wampanoags. There are a few walls in the older section of the house which still have the walls plastered with a mix of horse hair and plaster. The old living room and two small bedrooms constitute the oldest part of the building. Some of the old books from the earliest inhabitants remain.
What You Need to Provide: We have general spices, cleaning supplies, washing detergent, dish towels, toilet paper, and paper towels. We would really like you to bring your own sheets and linens. However, we are willing to negotiate about the linens if this would present a hardship for you. We do not provide ferry reservations for the Steamship Authority. You need to get these well in advance.
Activities: Fourth of July traditionally has a firework which can be seen from the house. The fourth of July parade is just a block from the Chappaquiddick Ferry without the hassle of traffic. The Chappaquiddick Community Center has a range of activities including swimming, sailing and tennis as well as a variety of activities for adults.
