- The Farm at French's Point has been restored and appointed to comfortably host large family or business gatherings. You will find the overnight accommodations luxurious and well appointed. Each bedroom has convenient access to one of the 5 1/2 spacious bathrooms. Each bedroom has a character all it's own and each one has a water view of the beautiful Penobscot Bay. Three bedrooms have gas fireplaces. Two bedrooms boast private entrances and access to the terraces. One bedroom has a beautiful private balcony with an amazing view of the Bay, the orchard and blueberry fields, the 100 acre forested state preserve that surrounds the Point, and an inhabited osprey nest. \

Spend cool summer evenings or chilly fall afternoons curled up in front of any one of The Farm’s five working fireplaces -- or find the perfect spot to read a book, play games or just relax in The Farm’s • Nine beautifully appointed bedrooms • Five and one half luxurious baths • Fully appointed and updated, gourmet kitchen • Cozy sitting rooms • Open and airy great room/meeting space with multi-media capability
History: In 1764, Col. Benjamin Shute purchased 100 acres of Maine land on the magnificent coast of Penobscot Bay. He built a log cabin, and a few years later, added a cape-style ell onto a small nearby home – now The Farm at French’s Point is the oldest wooden structure still standing in Waldo County. Fearing attack during the French and Indian War (1754-1760), the Shute family built an underground escape tunnel leading from the house to the shore. Later, the tunnel was used by slaves traveling the underground railroad from the south to freedom in the north, and then for rum running during prohibition in the 1920s. The Shute family sold the cape to William French in 1814, and he built the colonial section onto what soon came to be known as French House. In 1890, the Universalist Church of Bangor took ownership of French House, using it as a cook house and sleeping accommodations for counselors for the nearby Hersey Retreat. The property was purchased and restored by the Brooks Family in 2002.
