Activities: Take a mountain bike ride or hike the property. Esopus creek is nearby for fishing or tubing in warm (very warm) weather. Take a scenic walk around Ashokan reservoir, a man-made wonder that provides much of the drinking water for New York City. Or check out the Zen Mountain Monastery and Tibetan Temple. Explore the ecelctic town of Woodstock from its gourmet shops to the weekly flea market. Saugerties is home to many antique shops and art galleries and don't forget to visit the lighthouse that illuminates the Hudson River. World class horse jumping can also be seen at the H.I.T.S. Horse Shows in the multi-million Sun complex Travel west and take a ride on the Delaware and Ulster Railroad in period coaches that originally connected Kingston with Oneonta. Stop along the way to sample wines on a winery tour of the Hudson Valley. Check out the fabulous Emerson Resort for fine dining, spa treatments, and upscale shopping, not to mention the World's Largest Kaleidoscope...

Museums: Visit New York's first capital, Kingston, established in 1977 and tour the original Senate House and Museum. Make sure you come on a weekend where the Farmer's Market is on display to sample some of the best homegrown vegetables, breads, and baked goods. And check out the Hudson River Museum that displays artifacts and provides boat rides. While in Woodstock, visit the Center of Photography on Tinker Street. Make sure you find the Black Bear Trading Post in Esopus, which contains authentic costmes and Native American artifacts. Within 30 minutes, you can also visit the home of Franklin D. Roosevelt in Hyde Park, or tour beautiful mansions overlooking the Hudson Valley. The Culinary Institute of America is also nearby, and perhaps most imporant, so are their several restaurants.

Arts and Theater: For the past 90 years, the Maverick Concert Hall has hosted weekend chamber music concerts in their hand built cncert hall outside of Woodstock. The New York Conservatory for the Arts in Hurley offers performances in dance, theater, music, and many other events throughout the summer. In the Summer, the Shandaken Theater Society performs several musicals and dramas and the Belleayre Conservatory produces concerts, opera, and other musical performances near the top of the Belleayre Ski Center. The Woodstock Playhouse offers a diverse schedule of musical events and the Woodstock Flm Festival is held every Fall season and features film premiers, appearances, and workshops by notable directors and actors, in addition to hosting gala events and concerts.

Ski: If you’re a skier or snowboarder, the Catskills has all the slopes and trails with terrain to please beginners and experts. The Catskills are also home to great snowshoeing, ice fishing, snowmobiling and ice skating. Belleayre Mountain (www.belleayre.com) is within 30 minutes of the house and features the Catskills’ only Cat-access sking and a widened and improved halfpipe, 47 trails and 8 lifts, including a new High Speed Quad. Windham Mountain (www.windhammountain.com) offers skiing, snowboardng, and boasts the Catskills’ highest vertical and 98% snowmaking covering 700 acres with a thick base of snow for great conditions all winter. Hunter Mountain (www.huntermtn.com) also has terrain for all abilities, an impressive vertical drop, and reliable snow conditions.
