About Lincoln Road Miami Beach - South Beach: Carl Fisher, the wealthy original developer of Miami Beach, envisioned Lincoln Road to be the Miami Beach counterpart to Fifth Avenue in New York, or Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles. And indeed in the boom times of South Beach in the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's, it could match those upscale fashionable shopping districts as it does again today. Today, Lincoln Road is a pedestrian promenade between Lenox Avenue and Washington Avenue. It is thriving as a shopping and dining area. Unique stores offer items not typically found in malls, and restaurants and cafés are common. Golf: The 18-hole 'Miami Beach' course at the Miami Beach Golf Club facility in Miami Beach, Florida features 6,903 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73 and it has a slope rating of 127. Designed by Bruce Devlin/Robert Von Hagge/(R)Arthur Hills, ASGCA/Steven P. Forrest, ASGCA, the Miami Beach golf course opened in 2002. Professional Course Management manages this facility. The recent (2002) remodel of MBGC was a huge success. The entire course is well manicured and very well designed. The grass on the course is a new strain of Bermuda grass that looks more like bent grass and plays like it also. The greens are reasonably fast for Florida (9-9.5 Stimpmeter rating) and the fairways are close cropped and fast also. The pro shop is very well stocked and attended by several pros who were very friendly and accommodating. The day we played (May 22nd) it was hot and we were treated to lots of wildlife. The Iguana lizards are plentiful and quite large. It was like going to the zoo. I've only played limited golf in Florida but MBGC is definitely an upgrade from the high end resorts that I've experienced in South Florida. If you plan on playing golf in the Miami area, give this one a try. You won't be disappointed.
