Betterton House Summary

Comfortable 1920's two-story house in the historic town of Betterton, Maryland. House is a two-minute walk to a friendly, clean community beach. Jellyfish are rare here. Boating and fishing from the pier. Fully equipped with bed linens, kitchen necessities, TV, cable. Pet-friendly. Especially enjoyable for families with kids. Also romantic getaway for a couple. The Chesapeake Bay is relatively tame: few big waves, jellyfish are rare, not too deep for kids, but totally refreshing. Beach has lifeguards on the weekends. House is tastefully decorated with serene colors. Chestertown ,Maryland, one of the oldest towns on the eastern seaboard is just a 10-15 minute drive by car. Chestertown has wonderful restaurants, antique shops, several book stores or just window shop. Take a day trip on the Sultana, a reproduction of a 16th century ship. Betterton is located in historic Kent County, Maryland. In the late 19th and early 20th century Betterton was a booming stop on Chesapeake Bay excursion cruises. Although the cruises don't come here anymore, many historic homes remain today. The Town has a wonderful sense of community and neighborliness, with sidewalks, a community beach with boardwalk, a place to dock boats for the day, and a jetty out onto the water. If you're looking for a quiet family vacation at the beach, Betterton is perfect.

  • The master bedroom is gorgeous. The cathedral ceiling with exposed collar ties highlights the historic character of the house. A large window looks out over Betterton, with glimpses of the Bay visible from the room. Just adjacent to the master bedroom is a very large room. It could easily accommodate sleeping for an infant or small child. A sleeper/play pen and cot are available for this purpose. The twin beds in the two smaller bedrooms (4 beds total) can be arranged as side-by-side twins, a twin and a trundle, or a single king size. These rooms are a bit small, and would function best with either one adult and child, or two children. The house could sleep four adults very comfortably with two in the master and one each in the smaller bedrooms. For a family the house could accommodate two adults and four to six children.

Notes: Cell phone coverage is spotty for T-Mobile; much better to rear of house and outside. Reputed to be a bit better for other carriers. The drinking water is delicious! I've never tasted better. Water sports equipment (tubes, floaties, etc) provided. House is a non-smoking house.
