Shopping and sightseeing: If you’re looking for great ambiance plus popular and unique stores, a movie theatre and a variety of good restaurants, then one place to go is the Mashpee Commons. It’s an outdoor very well laid out marketplace and about seven miles from the cottage Another destination worth exploring is Woods Hole and Falmouth. The village of Falmouth is charming with many shops and places to dine and just down the road through Falmouth center you will see signs to Woods Hole, home of the world famous Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and the Marthas Vineyard Ferry! (If you have the time, you should take a day trip over to the Vineyard. There’s lots to do over there and you can navigate most of the island by the Island Bus or by motor scooter.)

More shopping, sightseeing and restaurants : More shopping, sightseeing and restaurants can be found in historic Sandwich Village—the oldest town on the Cape. To get there just take a right on Rte. 130 and continue for approximately 5 miles until you literally run into the village. Check out the Daniel Webster Inn. The Tavern is a good stop for a beer and the restaurant features fine dining. Or you can go to the Brown Jug (our favorite) for a great sandwich and glass of wine. And there’s also the Tea Shoppe for a touch of England/Ireland. Great teas (and wine and beer!) and really great sandwiches. We also strongly recommend you put the Heritage Plantation on your to do list. The flower gardens, local and exotic trees, the beautiful grounds, plus the barn with two floors of vintage cars, is not to be missed. (You can also grab a sandwich there.) Another great destination is Hyannis. Downtown Main St. has undergone a dramatic facelift and it’s a great place to stroll.

Antique shops, great beaches, and more sightseeing: We have one big recommendation—drive Rte 6A. This is one of the prettiest country roads in all of America. (So says Mobile travel guide) and you can follow it right down to Provincetown if you wish. The easiest way to get there from our house is to go on the mid-cape (Rte. 6) and get off at exit 3. From there just follow the signs to 6A. When you get the 6A intersection, take a right and go as far as you like. The ride itself is beautiful with lovely Cape Cod houses everywhere, charming villages— you’ll be passing through the villages of Barnstable, Yarmouthport, Dennis, Brewster, etc., and great spots to stop for an ice cream, a meal, or antiques. Plus, on your way down Cape (toward Provincetown), just about every left will take you to the water or a beach.
