Fishing near Bald Head Island

Bald Head Island offers a great location for the year round sport fisherman. Many tournaments bring anglers from far away to try their hand at catching the big one. The Islands marina offers either boat rentals or numerous charters. Spring-Tuna fishing begins in March when schools of yellowfin and blackfin run north and south along the break. A favorite area, known locally as the '100-100,' produces not only tuna but wahoo and billfish. May opens the Cape Fear's billfish season. The nearby Gulfstream provides spectacular marlin fishing. Late spring offers mackeral and bluefish. Summer- Is kicked off by Bald Heads fishing rodeo with a choice of sailfish,white marlin, wahoo, tuna and dolphin. Frying Pan Shoals and the Cape Fear River offer bountiful opportunities for bluefish, drum, flounder and even tarpon. Fall- Brings excellent and abundant fishing. The annual U.S. Open King Mackeral Tournament draws hundreds. Winter- Offers more fishing with a healthy population of wahoo.

From the time you step onto the ferry you are transported to a peaceful slower way of life. Cars and lawn mowers are left behind. Electric golf carts, bicycles, roller skates, and walking are the mode of transportation. Swimming and shelling along the 14 miles of uncrowded beaches or the numerous swimming pools are always at your doorstep. From 50 foot high sand dunes to towering oak and cedar forests to 10,000 acres of protected marsh provide changing scenery. Canoe through the marsh or take one of the many nature trails, wildlife abounds. Leave your troubles behind. Read a good book, play a round of golf, take a romantic evening stroll and RELAX.
