No need for a car.... you can walk everywhere in Playa del Carmen. Taxi's are plentiful for those other excusions. The Cancun International Airport is only about 45 minutes from Playa del Carmen (30 miles). Playa has a small airport that mainly has service to Cozumel and some Mayan ruins, like Chichén Itzá and Palenque. One of the favorite passtimes is to explore the BEACHES along the shores of the MAYAN RIVERIA, approximately 500 kilometers from Cancun to Chetumal.
