Just north of the Harbor lies the famous Mavericks surfing spot, and just north of that begins the 2-mile-long stunning Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. To the south of the station house there are walking trails through 400 acres of open space populated by raptors, great horn owls, foxes, white egrets and other wonderful critters. Out the front door east it is a 7-minute walk to Half Moon Bay’s downtown Main Street.

It is about 35 minutes to the southern and western parts of San Francisco and 45 minutes to downtown, the Marina, Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown, and North Beach. It is just 30 minutes to the San Francisco airport; 30 minutes to Stanford University, Palo Alto and the north end of Silicon Valley; and 30 minutes to the unique Ano Nuevo elephant-seal preserve.
