Cosey Beach, East Haven is located 10 minutes from downtown New Haven, The New Haven Train Station and Yale University. New Haven is a cultural Mecca with its museums, theaters, concerts and International cuisine. Strategically located, Cosey Beach lies between New York City, Boston, and Newport, Rhode Island - all approximately 90 minutes away. Also close by are the famous Indian Reservation Casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun
Cosey Beach is a charming, 1920’s Nautical New England village, nestled on one of East Haven's award winning beaches. It’s a stretch of beach that lies between two tidal inlets along the Long Island Sound in East Haven. This beach has earned a national award by the National Resources Defense Council largely due to their monitoring system and pollution control effects used on the beach. NRDC named it “A Beach Buddy” and voted it one of the five top picks for clean summer spots in the East Coast. Another reason for the cleaner water is due to the two tidal inlets on each side of the beach and the natural cleansing that occurs as these tidal inlets move the water in and out.
This New England resort style atmosphere includes a beach park, pavilion, bocce court; ball field, bath and shower house, picnic area and two fine seafood restaurants all located along this waterfront street. The two local restaurants, The Sandpiper and The Beach Head are open year round serving up favorites such as soft shell crabs, fried clams and of course clam chowder. The street is lined with rustic 1920 beach homes and cottages. While most homes have been thoroughly renovated with 2nd and 3rd floors added on, a few are still seasonal cottages with no heat and are still used only by people wishing to “summer” in East Haven. It’s a great spot to purchase a vacation home or investment property. There is a lot to do for all age’s. Clamming, crabbing, fishing, wind surfing, canoeing, kayaking and jet skiing are some of the favorites and for those looking for a less physical vacation there is sunning, shelling, people watching and walking.
One of my favorite things to do is to walk my dog, down to the tidal inlet and watch the sun set over the marsh. The area has great western exposure and these sunset views are so spectacular that it’s hard to decide which side of the street is more breathtaking- the views of the water or the views of the sun setting over the marsh.Step out of your car and your senses will be assaulted with the smell of the sea air, the sights and sounds of the waves crashing on the shore and the feel of the cool ocean breeze on your skin. Come dig your toes in the sand and you will never want to leave.
