The Cancun International Airport is only about 45 minutes from Playa del Carmen (30 miles). Playa has a small airport that mainly has service to Cozumel and some Mayan ruins, like Chichén Itzá and Palenque. Otherwise, most of the Mexican Beaches are long, white sandy beaches unpopulated. One of the favorite pastimes is to explore the BEACHES along the shores of the MAYAN RIVERIA, approximately 500 kilometers from Cancun to Chetumal.
