Oak Bluffs House Details
The Community: The Pond House is located in a wonderful long-standing neighborhood created beginning in 1914 when the Hart family purchased about 150 acres of farm land and invited friends and relatives to build their homes. Harthaven Harbor is the only private harbor on Martha's Vineyard and a perfect place for tots to learn to swim. There are about two miles of private beach for your enjoyment.
Farm Pond: Farm Pond is one of the island's great ponds, providing lovely views of the ocean and the town of Oak Bluffs beyond.
Farm Pond House: The house is in some ways a time capsule from an earlier era with clever built-ins and flying saucer lamp shades and a curving deck looking out over the pond. The dining area is connected to an ample kitchen by a serving bar and opens to the living room for a free flowing convivial sense of space. This is a true 'machine for living' - just right for effortless socializing and island-style relaxation.
Golf: Enjoy the nearby Farm Neck Golf Club or play tennis on the community court located in a private forested lot nearby.
Guest Book: Thanks so much for the use of your beautiful home. We really appreciated the tranquility of Harthaven- especially given its proximity to Oak Bluffs (most convenient insofar as we had several teenagers in tow). Loved the view. We and the hounds paddled the pond several evenings, as did the kids. Having the use of bikes was great. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of staying in your well preserved 50's designed home. Al and I are very much preservationists. While at the Pondhouse we constantly found our selves discussing the architecture. What a beautiful job Mr. Moore (a relative I assume) did in that design- particularly considering the building materials available at the time. The fact that the house blends so well into its environs should serve as an example for those who build their vacation castles without consideration for their neighbors or the perspective of the house from the water.
