Skiing: Fairmont has it's own ski resort, about 10 min drive up the mountain, great for families and beginner/intermediates. There are six other ski resorts within 2 hours drive including Panarama, (4000' vertical) Kimberly, Fernie, Kicking Horse(great powder), Lake Louise, and Sunshine. Heli skiing and cat skiing are just 40 minutes away. Cross country from the back door onto the golf course. Panorama has 22 miles of cross country trails & there are plenty in the nearby Kootenay National Park.

Water sports: Fairmont is renowned for it's world famous outdoor mineral hot pools which are open to the public all year, & have been recently renovated, & there is also a less well know hot waterfall, both within a 5 minute drive from the house. The adjacent resort uses the water in special spa & mud treatments. There are 2 lakes - Windermere & Columbia within 10 minutes drive of the house, both offer opportunities for all types of boating activities, water-skiing, beaches & swimming. The lakes are both very shallow and warm quickly in the summer. The Columbia River provides opportunities for canoeing, & rafting & fishing and there is white water rafting on the near by Toby Creek & Kicking Horse rivers. There is plenty of fishing in the numerous local creeks & mountain lakes.
