The Punalu'u Black Sand Beach is just 30 minutes from Volcano, where you can sometimes see Hawaiian turtles swimming in the clear waters. You can view the beauty of Waimea on horseback which is just 45 minutes from Hilo. There are Restaurants,such as the Kiawe Kitchen which has a wonderful menu which includes Pizza.
