Brooksville Cottage Summary
Driftwood Cottage, a fully renovated two-story camp with cedar shingles and green trim, has a new kitchen and bathroom, but maintains its rustic atmosphere. Skylights in the gambrel roof give excellent water views. A wood-burning stove with a window to see the flames adds to the ambiance--the wood supply is provided. There is plenty of privacy as it is tucked into Lord's Cove on the Bagaduce River, a saltwater estuary; use the two ocean-going kayaks to explore its many islands and inlets. Wake to the sound of chickadees and other woodland birds; by night you can hear the call of loons over the water. The rocky ocean shore is just a few steps away down a wooden stairway. The west-facing porch is fully screened, so there's no need for insect repellent as you enjoy our ever-changing sunsets. A large lawn on the east and south sides of the cabin provide space for badminton or other yard games. There are a selection of board games, puzzles and books inside for a rainy day.

Brooksville, with a total area of 33.8 square miles and 53 miles of coastline, is home to Holbrook Island Sanctuary, a pristine nature reserve, and the Good Life Center, the last homestead of the Nearings (authors of Living the Good Life). Buck's Harbor has a yacht club and marina, and provides a locus of community activity; steel drums play with dancing in the street every other Monday throughout the summer. The Bagaduce river is a saltwater estuary with numerous islands and inlets, with historic Castine and Maine Maritime Academy 45 minutes by car and 30 minutes by kayak. Acadia National Park is just one hour away by car.
