About Ebby's House: Though referred to as a cottage by most of our guests, Ebby's House is an older two story structure made of wood and stone. Having shared our home with guests from all over the country for the last twenty five years, we work hard to make it a comfortable and peaceful place to visit. Many of our guests return year after year to re-capture the serenity they find within our walls and the majestic mountains of western North Carolina. This is the reason we do not accept month long rentals.

Who We Welcome: At Ebby's House, we welcome all kind, thoughtful natured, caring people who are commited to a peaceful world and a healthy environment. We do not descriminate against individuals for reasons of race, ethnicity, spiritual beliefs or gender. If you are coming to Highlands to simply be still, to read, to write, to listen to the birds sing in the morning (and perhaps sing back), to enjoy the great outdoors, to hike, bike, paddle or just watch the world go by - you're our kind of guest! If you're coming to Highlands so that you can boast 'Yes, we rented a quaint, little cottage in HIGHLANDS' to your pals (because Highlands is getting a horribly chic reputation...) and all you intend to do is look good, power shop and babble on your cell phone in public, then you probably should consider a different house!

Settle in to the OLD mountain way of life...: In the old days people would escape to Highlands because of our 4100 feet elevation, our incredible mountains, the amazing waterfalls and the kindness of the local families. No one really cared 'who' you were, where you came from, what you wore, what kind of car you drove or how much money you had. Life in Highlands was kind and most of all, it was respectful. Now days, our population soars in the summer months and during holidays. The once familiar 'hiking boot crowd' retreat to the peaceful places and try to maintain a simple, yet often casually elegant lifestyle. The 'perfectly coiffed' city folks who now crowd our street, are rushed and often rude. The mentality of the 'newcomers' clash with that of the 'oldtimers', so we ask a few things of our guests:Slow your life down. Talk softly. Laugh lots. If you see a piece of trash along the road or trail - pick it up. Leave your cell phone in the car! Support local businesses that have the best interest of Highlands at heart.
