Day Hikes Hiking is the best way to appreciate the beauty of this natural wonderland. Day hikes range from flat walks to robust climbs, with distances from the valley of under one mile (to Bridalveil Fall, easy) up to 17 miles (to Half-Dome, very strenuous). Visitors will see waterfalls, especially strong in the spring, glacial ravines, panoramic views, forests and meadows. You can also hike above the valley floor south in Wawona, where you will see covered bridges, open pine forest, and the Giant Sequoias Grove. Star-gazing: Star-gazing What’s big and dark and very sparkly at night? Yosemite is! For a speechless view of the stars, try Sentinel Dome at night. It’s the best 360° unobstructed view of the heavens you can see, especially during the meteor showers in August. You’ll also have excellent naked-eye views of the Milky Way galaxy. But aided by a telescope at Glacier Point, you’ll be able to view many other astronomical objects such as star clusters, gaseous nebulae and planets. This summer, during mid-August to mid September, Mars will be very near to earth. The closest approach will be on August 27. Mars will be closer to earth than it has been on that day in over 1000 years! Star parties are offered as a public service by the national park and the astronomy clubs, and anyone is welcome to attend. Bring your own telescope or binoculars and jacket (it can get quite cool even during summer) and join the fun.

Ski: Ski Yosemite - Downhill Skiing Six lifts, including the modern Eagle triple chair lift, take skiers to the 8,000 foot summit. Skiing terrain is ideal for beginners, improving skiers and families. The Yosemite Ski School, directed by Nic Fiore, is recognized as one of California's best. Most cross-country skiing in the National Park occurs at Badger Pass on the 90 miles of marked trails, which begin from the ski area. 35 km (23 miles) of machine groomed track and skating lanes travel from Badger Pass to Glacier Point and to the Clark Range Vista. Golf: Yosemite's Wawona Golf Course was the first regulation course in the Sierra Nevada when it opened in 1918, and has provided golfers challenging but rewarding rounds ever since. Designed by Walter G. Favarque to blend seamlessly into its spectacular surroundings, this nine-hole, par-35 national park golf course measures 3,050 yards and includes two par-five holes and three par-three holes. Different tee positions per side provide a par-70, 18-hole format. Golfers of every level enjoy the rolling terrain, variety of challenging holes and tranquil setting of this historic course. Walking the GreenPath This Yosemite golf course is one of the few organic golf courses in the United States and is a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. No pesticides are applied to the course and only reclaimed gray water is used for watering the greens.
