Venice Apartment Summary

Ca’ Badoer dei barbacani is a private 'palazzetto' located at the very heart of Venice. It offers a few self-catering apartments for rent on a weekly basis. The apartments are on the second 'piano nobile' and floors above, and enjoy open views - some over Church and canal. The interiors preserve a typically Venetian period feel, but combine this with modern comfort, first of all the use of a LIFT (elevator): 'no stairs to climb’. Some apartments have air conditioning, some satellite TVs, all have full equipment, linen, and weekly cleaning. The location, well known for the splendid Church of the Frari, is quiet and yet within walking distance of the Rialto and St. Mark’s. There are many local shops and restaurants, and close by at San Toma’ is the stop for public water-transport on the Grand Canal. Accessible by a lift (elevator), the Linked apartment for 6 has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Being a part of the second 'piano nobile’ with its tall South facing windows and high ceilings, it conveys a pleasant feel of space and brightness. The reception room with balcony enjoys the view of the Church and canal. The view of the bell-tower is also enjoyed from all three bedrooms, even when one lies in bed. The traditional kitchen/breakfast room is full of sunshine in the morning and has a marble top table and an ancient fireplace canopy. The Linked is a combi-apartment interconnecting two units - the Family apartment and the South Studio. The old city of Venice lies peacefully in the middle of a Lagoon. It is made of hundreds of small islands connected together by arched bridges with steps, where cars can't go. A 3 Km long causeway connects the city to the mainland. At the Venice end of the causeway are several multistorey garages. At this point, both motoring and rail travel end and only pedestrians or boats can enter the city.

Venice Apartment Rates

  • Rental prices include final/weekly cleaning and rental/washing of household linen (sheets, towels, tablecloths, napkins, floorcloths, tee-towels etc).
    Weeks start and end on a Saturday (this is occasionally flexible). Minimum rental payment is one week.
  • “Short breaks” of a minimum of 3-nights may be booked during the month running up to the beginning of the rental. A 3-night break is €882 (€702 in low season) and a 4-night break is €1176 (€940 in low season)
  • Rental payments are in Euros. In the case of weekly rentals, the BOOKING DEPOSIT is equal to one third of the total rental cost; in the case of “short breaks” it is equal to the cost of one night. The amount is payable by Credit Card (no commission charged on booking deposits) at the moment of booking. Exceptionally, a personal cheque in pound sterling may be accepted as payment for a booking deposit.The rental BALANCE is payable in cash in Euros on arrival in Venice. CCard payments of the balance will incur a commission charge of 4%. A RETURNABLE Security Deposit of €200 is also payable in cash in Euros.

Notes: The linked apartment is fully equipped and well stocked. The reception room has a sitting area and a dining area. On the typically Venetian balcony is room for two chairs to enjoy the view. All beds have sprung mattresses. The master bedroom has twin beds that may convert to a double. The small bedroom has Georgian twin beds in a line. The third bedroom - also with twin/double beds - has an en-suite with bath and standing shower in the bath with screens; also some extra cooking facilities. The main bathroom has a bath with hand shower. Facilities also include: intercom, 2 telephone lines, 2 electric kettles, 2 toasters and 4 Moka espresso, electric oven & 2 microwaves, a 4-burner gas cooking hob, and an extra 2 burner electric hob, both a washing machine and a washer-drier, 3 table-top fans, 2 safe boxes, 2 irons & ironing boards; 'Sheila Maid' clothes airer, hair dryer; china, silver & glasses, pots & pans, tablecloths & napkins, tee-towels, bath towels and bed sheets.


Venice Apartment Details

Special features and view: A long history! The palazzetto still preserves some original features belonging to a 10th/11th century house, then home to a branch of the Badoer, one of the most distinguished Venetian families. Re-designed by the Badoers towards the end of the 15th century, the medieval projecting pinions, or 'barbacani', have since become its identifying characteristic. In 1500 the house appeared in the “Bird’s eye view map of Venice” by Jacopo De Barbari. Overall, it stayed in the ownership of the Badoers for almost a millennium, till the end of the 19th Century. Being a taller building than the surrounding houses, it enjoys plenty of light as well as far reaching views, going as far as the domes of the Salute and the Alps on a clear day. The view of the canal dei Frari and canal San Stin joining together under the bridge and also that of the Frari bell-tower in the moonlight are truly romantic sights.

Shopping and transport: The location is near the Church of the Frari, a well-known landmark to the “conoscenti”. The area is quiet, yet central; within easy reach of the Rialto, the Accademia and Saint Mark’s on foot, and quicker still by “vaporetto” from S. Toma’. Locally, cafes, restaurants, shops and markets are all close at hand, and so are two Universities, the State Archives of the “Serenissima” , patronised by international scholars, concert halls (concerts held in the Frari Church, as well as the two “Scuole” of S. Rocco and of St John the Evangelist), ... and paintings galore: the Frari Titians, the Tintorettos at San Rocco are just round the corner. Understandably, the local population are mostly professionals or academic-related. On the other hand, our visitors enjoy sight seeing - whether on foot, by gondola or by water-bus - shopping for designer fashion & antiques, visiting museums, attending concerts, gondola regattas, bathing at the Lido, painting or just writing books on Venice.

Sports: In Venice local rowing clubs and sailing clubs, such as the 'Compagnia della Vela', have a distinguished history. More water-sports, as well as golf, tennis and riding are available at the island of the Lido, where also bicycles can be hired. The beach at the Lido can be reached by direct water-bus service from San Toma’ in 3/4 hour. To secure a good beach cabin for the day, or half-day, an early morning start by water-bus is advisable. Early morning travel is not so crowded and the journey along the Grand Canal, then across the Lagoon to the Lido is an event in itself. The return journey in the evening, facing the sun setting behind the domes of Venice and the waters of the Lagoon come ablaze with colours is also something not to be missed.
