Kapoho House Summary

Enjoy the panoramic view of the Kapoho surf and bay. Our beach access leads us to the bay just 100 feet away. Coastal trade winds are almost always blowing, and the roar of the surf will lull you to sleep! The unique design of this hexagon house has four of the six sides with sliding glass doors and windows for maximum view and cooling from the trade winds. Watch for a cruise ship in the evening making her journey to Kona, leaving Hilo in her wake. Check out those brilliant stars while waiting. The loft gives a spectacular 360-degree view of the bay, surf, ocean, palms and Norfolk Island pine trees. You have six sides from which to choose. The master bedroom has a king sized bed. There is a queen size in the loft, and the Futons in the living room have spring mattresses, one a queen and the other a double. Two recliners let you check out the beautiful view while relaxing in the cool trade winds.

Pahoa, about 10 miles from Kapoho, offers plenty of options for groceries, supplies and fun shopping. Several markets, including a top-notch natural foods market and a 24 hour convenience store, a fish market, a farmer’s market, half-a-dozen good restaurants (two of which are *very* good), video store, and an ever-changing array of colorful and offbeat shops selling hand-crafted souvenirs, tropical plants and flowers, original art and island apparel can be found in this bohemian village center. Hilo, county seat and the island’s largest city, is about 30 miles from Pahoa. A bastion of Hawaiian history and culture, Hilo is home to museums, botanical gardens and cultural centers. Each April Hilo hosts the Merrie Monarch Festival; often called the “Olympics of Hula.” Hilo also offers supermarkets and shops, golf courses, parks, state of the art movie theaters, many fine restaurants and a laid back Aloha atmosphere that is treasured by locals and visitors alike. Sights to See: The rural Puna area is lush and green, with many papaya orchards and horse ranches. You will see the amazing tunnel of trees, Lava Tree Park and fields of old lava as you enter. There are no high rises here! The nights are black and the stars are brilliant. Evening rains keep the air fresh and the tropical plants green. Relax as you breath in the 'freshest air in the world', according to scientists. You can swim with the sea turtles in Champagne Pond or kayak in the bay. Or, surf and boogie board with the locals down the road at Isaac Hale Park and Pohoiki Bay. Or try your hand at fishing or spearfishing. Golf courses are less than 30 minutes - how about golfing on top of a real volcano? Maybe try spelunking - exploring the large lava tubes in the area. Or just sit back on the deck and listen to the waves crash close by while sipping on a cool drink. This will be a Hawaiian vacation like none other!
