Chatham House Summary

This is the bright, updated, family retreat that you have been looking for and just steps from Nantucket Sound. A basement family room with bath is under construction for Spring 2009. House underwent complete 2nd floor addition in 2003 and was newly painted, updated, furnished and decorated under new ownership in 2005. Just a short walk of 50 steps takes you to the private association beach pathway, and 125 steps brings you to the popular public beach (offering amazing tidal pools for small children, a great snack shack, beach store and water sport rentals). Why rush in the morning, pay to park at the beach and lug all the gear, when you can have the freedom to walk back and forth to the beach throughout the day? Enjoy barbecuing on the 400sf back deck after you rinse the saltwater off in the outdoor shower. This charming, well-maintained beach retreat has some water views from the second floor. Well-equipped, family-friendly and eager to host a memorable and relaxing vacation.

Chatham is located at the 'elbow' of Cape Cod and is surrounded by water on three sides. It is a wonderful, quaint town that offers everything you want and need for a great vacation. The beaches are beautiful and plentiful, and the village is filled with unique shops and restaurants. Families enjoy attending the Chatham A's baseball games under the lights, Friday night Town Band concerts, playing at the amazing town playground and riding bikes along the unique Cape Cod Rail Trail. Take advantage of the excursions to Monomoy Island to visit the seals, or join a charter fishing or whale-watching trip. Golfers will love the Captain's Course, a public championship course just a few miles away. Day trips to P-town, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are easy. Morning beach yoga at the Chatham Lighthouse is a personal favorite. Of course, no vacation is complete without a lobster roll and some clam chowder (we recommend the infamous local tavern, the Chatham Squire). Please join us!

Chatham House Details

On Chatham - from the Boston Globe, 6/4/08: Like many Colonial-era coastal towns, Chatham has evolved with the tides of commerce. Since William Nickerson bought 4 square miles of land in 1656, the town has relied, in turn, on farming, maritime trade, fishing, and tourism, and its success in retaining links to its past earned it recognition in 2007 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Visitors come here for the simple, old-fashioned pleasures the town affords: Friday night band concerts on the green, college summer league baseball, offloading of the day's catch at the fish pier. The waters off Chatham were the site of many shipwrecks in the 19th century. Some of those wrecks were caused by Chatham's mooncussers, men who waved lanterns on murky nights in an effort to disorient sailors into grounding their ships so they could loot the cargo. Perhaps a bit of that rogue spirit lives on in a popular bumper sticker spotted around town: 'Chatham, Mass.: A quaint little drinking village with a fishing problem.'

On Buck's Creek - from the Boston Globe, 9/1/08: 'It's Buck's Creek that makes Chatham's south-side waterfront so special. The waterway separates the popular Ridgevale and Harding's beaches and creates a couple of great neighborhoods on its elevated banks, where kids can grab a boogie board, jog down small backyards hills, and be at either beach in a matter of minutes.' NOTE -- our home is a part of the Buck's Creek Association.

Guest Book: Guests from Summer 2006 --Thank you for another wonderful summer vacation! We have enjoyed ourselves yet again. We loved the new deck. Lots of dinners and cocktails enjoyed. The kids loved the basketball hoop. We spent most of our days at Ridgevale Beach and ventured off to Nauset Beach one day (too cold!). We love this house and we love Ridgevale Beach. What a perfect spot. (Kim, MA) Our first family vacation to the Cape was wonderful. Thank you for sharing your home with us. I loved how close to the beach we were! My kids were excited every time we went. Our son liked catching crabs, while our daughter started a new shell collection. We hope to come again next summer. (Steve, MA) Si Como No lived up to all our expectations and more!! The cottage, the proximity to the beach, etc. We hope to be back next year. (Denis, NY) Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We had a wonderful time. What a gorgeous deck you added. A very lovey home. (Jill, GA)

Other Activities: Kayaking, seal watches, guided nature hikes
