Bar Harbor Cabin Summary

Conveniently located in the center of Mt. Desert Island on the 'Quiet Side,' you will enjoy easy access to all of the island's activities and scenery. This peaceful camp is nestled in the pines on ledges at the foot of Acadia Mountain, about a mile from the village of Hall Quarry. The camp sleeps four in two bedrooms (one only partially enclosed), and two more on a sleep sofa. Fully equipped kitchen (though no dishwasher) and laundry facilities plus a gas grill off the large front deck. Pets may be a negotiated possibility. Hall Quarry is a quiet residential area, famous in the past for the excellent granite that was shipped by schooner to eastern seaboard cities in the 1800's. Evidence can still be seen of the old quarries in walks around the village.

Car: recommended

Again, convenience is one of the main attractions of the camp's location. On a hot day, a ten minute walk will bring you to a swim at Echo Lake's 'The Bluffs' in Acadia National Park. It's the same distance to the trailhead of Acadia Mountain - 45 minutes from your door to the top of the mountain will reveal some of the most spectacular views on the Island (see photos). A more extended hike will take you down the other side of the mountain to the shore of Somes Sound, Man O' War Brook, St. Sauveur Mountain and the equally spectacular cliffs above Valley Cove. For exploring the rest of the Island, a five minute walk will allow you to catch the Island Explorer, a free shuttle bus to many locations around Mount Desert Island. Ike's Point Boat Launch on Echo Lake is a five minute drive.

By car, no place on the Island is more than a 20 minute drive: 15 minutes to Bar Harbor or Northeast Harbor, 10 minutes to Southwest Harbor, 20 minutes to mainland Ellsworth, 5 minutes to Somesville and one of the best book stores around. After a long day of activities, as evening descends, relax on the deck to the sound of loons on Echo Lake.
