Chatham House Summary

Our lovely Cape home on Deering Drive is situated on a quiet cul-de-sac, a short half-mile walk up from one of the best family beaches on the Cape – Ridgevale Beach. In 2007, we made extensive renovations to the house. The house feels like an older quaint Cape, yet it is completely repainted and redecorated. There are new oak floors in the living room, dining room and bedrooms. On the main floor there is a kitchen, sun room leading to the deck, living room with fireplace, full bath and two light-filled bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and bath with shower! The back bedroom has twin beds. The tiled walk-out level (also renovated) has: a living room with trundle bed/couch; an efficiency kitchen, carpeted bedroom with twin beds, full bath and laundry. In October of 2007, we had wooden detachable gates built for the deck to keep young children safe!

Chatham House Details

More About the House: We constantly update the house, yet it has the flavor of a quaint Cape. In 2004 we added pine floors in the living and dining areas. In 2005 we put in a new red brick path and front steps. In 2006 we rebuilt the flower boxes in the front of the house, which are in full bloom in summer. In colder seasons the living room, which has its own comfortable ambiance, is a great place to spend time playing games, watching TV or reading by the fire with eggnog, cocoa or wine. It's the sun room and deck that get the most use in warm weather. Oddly enough, parents always tell us that they LOVE the cul-de-sac location, because it is a great space for games and big toys with wheels.) Let's not forget that the expansive back yard is great for croquet, badminton games, etc. And we have the equipment for both.

Beaches and The Cape: Our own Ridgevale Beach is simply one of the greatest beaches for families with children. Its location on the bay means we benefit from warmer Cape water and gentle surf. The tidal pool creates great play areas and accommodates different swimmer capabilities. although, the beach is a short walk from the house, you can park at the beach if you get a sticker. A beach sticker allows you to swim at other Chatham beaches, including Schoolhouse Pond, and this can be a real treat. You don’t need a sticker for Lighthouse Beach, which is a beach at the tip of Chatham. You park where you can and you haul your beach gear. This is a great beach for walking, usually quite cold water, but very beautiful and you frequently see seals at the point farther from town. Harding's Beach, just down from Rdgevale, is a great beach on a windy day. We go to the far parking lot, walk into the dune area and hunker down. This is a good beach for walking.

What We Love To Do At The Cape: In addition to the beaches and walks near us, we may go to Nauset Beach in Orleans. We make a trip to the National Seashore a day long affair - ending with a trip to Provincetown for dinner at either the Red Inn or Nappy's, sight-seeing, shopping and wandering some of the side streets of P-town. A trip to P-town, minus the swimming experience, can also include a trip to go whale watching or a trip to the museum on the hill. One night if we think the sunset is going to be great we get over to Orleans Harbor and watch the fishing boats come in as the sun sets on the water. We also LOVE nature walks - favorites - Morris Island in Chatham and the Nauset Marsh Trail. (Google Cape cod Nature Trails!)

Guest Book: 'We enjoyed the sun room... the outdoor shower was really nice especially after the beach.' maroof@alum.rpi.edu 'My husband and I spent all our waking hours on the porch while the kids played in the living room or downstairs.' s.campionegan@comcast.net The location at the end of the cul-de-sac was great for the kids..they could play baseball. It was very quiet and peaceful. irishnw22@aol.com We enjoyed walking to the beach (usually someone drove the towels, shovels, etc. down), baseball games, shopping in town and playing from the great assortment of board games. mholdrich@earthlink.net 'This was a warm and welcoming home....' ddenault@nhctc.

Other Activities: marsh and bird walks
