Bar Harbor Cottage Summary

The Birches of Bar Harbor is a 4-bedroom, 2-bath 2-story Cape-style cottage in a very quiet, woodsy neighborhood within walking distance of downtown (half a mile) and within easy biking distance of Acadia National Park (1 1/2 miles to the Witch Hole carriage trail). The ground floor has a 14 X 20 living room, two charming bedrooms with a connecting bath (shower only). There is a full bed in one and twin beds in the other. In addition to the connecting bath, each bedroom has a small, built-in vanity and sink. A sliding glass door off the dining area opens onto a beautiful large (250 square feet) deck, with a lovely view of the park loop road in Acadia National Park and, during part of the year, Cadillac Mountain off in the distance. There is a gas barbecue grill there, and very comfortable deck furniture. Upstairs are a large bedroom with sitting area, and a medium-sized bedroom, each with queen-sized beds. There is a common bathroom off the hall with tub/shower.

  • The two small downstairs bedrooms have a connecting bath. They also have small vanities with sinks in the rooms. One has twin beds, the other a full. The upstairs bathrooms are larger, both with queens, and the largest also has a full-sized foldout futon. The house comfortably holds 10, but there is a large non-foldout couch in the living room, and an air mattress available in the front closet.

The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, and all necessary utensils, including a huge lobster pot (of course). There is a lovely side yard that is almost the size of a small private park. There you can relax in the Pawley's Island hammock strung between two sturdy birches, or have lunch on the picnic table under a gorgeous red maple. The more energetic might want to get up a game of badminton or croquet.
