Hanalei House Summary

Buddha said when you can see 100 Shades of Green, you have truly reached heaven. This is the feeling you will have at this beautiful tropical paradise nestled in the Wainiha River Valley, near Hanalei. Lush vegetation - palm trees, banana trees, flowering ginger, jasmine, ti, ferns, even orchids surround you on the property. It's a lush jungle spot away from all the cares of the outside world, yet with all the amenities and comforts of a modern home. You now can even see and hear the river. The house is new, open, comfortable and reflective of the sensibilities of its artist-owner. Indoors or out there is plenty of space and comfort and a mountain view from every room. The master suite upstairs is 600 sq. feet and has its own tub, shower, lanai, and even a fireplace. Downstairs are two more good sized bedrooms with new bamboo floors, separate full bath and a large open living room, complete kitchen and dining area. There is also a huge outdoor screened in lanai to dine and relax

Location of House 101686

Nearest airport:   Lihue at 40 Miles
Nearest beach:   Beach at 2.0 Miles
Car: necessary

The house is situated six tenths of a mile up the beautiful Wainiha River valley. In your backyard down the hill is the rushing Wainiha River itself, always there to look at AND listen to. It is like a walk back in time to the way Kauai used to be. Two miles away are many beaches including Haena State Park & Tunnels Beach (of Bali Hai fame and great for snorkeling) and Lumahai Beach (wash that man right out of my hair). A little further is Hanalei Bay and the charming town of Hanalei and Ke'e Beach, the Kalalau trailhead and the NaPali coast. You will want to go to Ke'e almost every day for a swim and sunset. Swimming, snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, kite surfing and more are in abundance on the lush North Shore. Poipu, Waimea Canyon and the south shore are only an hour or so away as well.

Hanalei House Details

Wainiha Valley & Powerhouse Road: Walk up wonderful windy Powerhouse Road past a variety of tall trees and vegetation, wild jungle, manicured lawns, open views of Wainiha mountain and the mountain ridges - back in time like much of Kauai used to be. Maybe you will see an owl, horse, cow, geese, ducks or Graham Nash. Or slip into the hammock, sit on the lanai, soak in the hot tub, listen to the sound of the river, enjoy the melodic white rumped shama bird or the Japanese yellow eyes flitting amongst the ginger flowers or just watch the banana leaves unfurl while you turn the pages of your book ... you may never leave 100 Shades of Green at all.

Beaches: Walk (or drive) all the way along the incredible stretch of beach from Wainiha (at the bottom of Powerhouse) all the way to to Ke'e at the end of the road and enjoy the many different moods of the waves, coves, surfers, kite surfers, locals, shells searchers, whatever. You will want to stop at Tunnels Beach for snorkeling and swimming and to stare again and again at Makana (we know it as Bali Hai from South Pacific). On past Haena Beach Park to Ke'e for the best sunsets on the island where the jagged NaPali cliffs go right into the crashing sea. And always a safe spot for a swim with its protecting reef, sometimes a turtle or seal in the water or on the beach. And in the opposite direction to Lumahai Beach and Hanalei Bay two more of the most beautiful beaches anywhere on the island or elsewhere for that matter. Time after time you will want to swim and walk the lovely crescent of Hanalei Bay and enjoy the quaint little town. You may never leave the North Shore.

Other North Shore highlights: Hiking the Kalalau trail, one of the top hikes in anyone's book starts at Ke'e Beach. There are also many back roads and other hikes in and around the area, Limahuli public gardens, wet and dry caves, kayaking in Hanalei or on the Napali Coast, shopping in Hanalei, golfing and tennis in Princeville, enjoying the outdoor farmers markets Saturdays and Tuesdays in and near Hanalei, surfing (I stood up and stayed on the wave some distance in my first lesson), and many other activities that await you in this tropical paradise. And that's just the North Shore. Have you died and gone to heaven yet?
