Siena Apartment Summary

Come and stay on our organic farm in the hills of Tuscany in our spacious comfortable apartment 'La Mezzaluna'. Relax in tranquil surroundings with wonderful unspoilt views. The apartment forms part of the main traditional stone farmhouse but has its own private entrance, large private terrace and garden area and own parking. The accommodation is on two floors with two double bedrooms, one with extra bed and two bathrooms, one upstairs and one down. The kitchen/diner opens directly onto the terrace from where one can watch the constantly changing light on the surrounding hills. The apartment has been sympathetically restored to retain its original features whilst providing excellent modern facilities including fly screens and full central heating provided by our high tech wood boiler and solar panels. The farm is set in its own 42 acres of olive grove, vineyard and woodland and is run along traditional lines of small-scale cultivation on ancient terraces.

Just ten minutes' walk from the farm is the charming and lively 12th century walled village of Montefollonico. Here you will find 2 well-stocked shops, 2 bars and 3 restaurants, a bank, chemist and post office and every Tuesday a traditional street market. The property is ideally placed for visiting one of Italy's top wine making regions, just 10 minutes drive from Montepulciano famous for its Nobile wines, and 40 minutes from Montalcino, home of the Brunello grape. It is also centrally situated for visiting the numerous artistic treasures of the region - Siena, Florence and Rome are all within driving distance. Closer by are the charming towns of Pienza and Montepulciano and numerous delightful hilltop villages so characteristic of the region. There is a great choice of restaurants to suit every budget and we have compiled a list of tried and tested venues.

Siena Apartment Details

We make our own delicious extra virgin olive oil and Chianti-style red wine which guests are welcome to sample and many other home-produced organic products such as honey, pork, lamb, eggs and vegetables. We have traditional wood fired bread oven and those who so wish can learn to make their own delicious bread and pizzas. Central heating and hot water are included in the rental - we have a high tech wood-fired boiler and solar panels. Electricity is from renewable energy sources. We encourage guests to re-cycle plastic, paper, tins and glass and we have a compost bin for organic waste.

Activities: Many walks in the immediate vicinity and further afield, cycling, horse riding, two local swimming pools twenty minutes drive away, nearby hot sulfur springs, lake swimming at Bolsena, bird watching at Montepulciano lake, famous gardens to visit at La Foce, outdoor music concerts throughout the summer and many local food festivals.
