Details for The Old Stables

This substantial Grade II listed stable-block dates from the 17th century. It is built of the local golden-coloured stone and was converted in 2001-2 to provide a top quality holiday home. Every effort has been made to keep the original features while modern comforts have been added. Throughout, there are many ancient beams and timbers. On the ground floor there is the main living room divided into kitchen/sitting and dining areas. There is also a bedroom on this floor with a magnificent king-sized four-poster bed, and a bathroom next door. Upstairs there are two further good-sized bedrooms, one a family room (double bed and a single) the other with two single beds. There is a second bathroom (with shower) on this floor. The stables are suitable for a guest with mobility problems. There is a sunny south/east facing garden and parking for two cars. A medieval Bee House can also be rented in conjunction with this property providing a double bedroom and shower room but no kitchen.

  • We also offer short breaks- a minimum 2 nights. The short break price is usually £25 -£30 per person per night for a 3 night break and £30-£40 per person per night for a 2 night break - depending upon the season and the number of people in the group. Email us with your requirements . The rent includes all fuel and linen - including full central heating. We charge £10 extra for dogs because of the extra cleaning. There are no hidden extra charges.
  • There are an additional two beds in a nearby medieval bee-house that can be rented in conjuction with the Stables - the bee house has an ensuite shower room but no kitchen so it cannot be rented on its own. £50 for the first night and £25 for each subsequent night. Email us for further information!
  • CREDIT CARDS: We take the following credit/debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Delta, Switch & Solo. At Christmas we provide a Christmas tree, holly, ivy and mistletoe! Full central heating is included. Changeover day is flexible.

Yeovil Details

The accommodation: : The Ancient Barn, The Old Stables and the Bee House are situated between an old farmhouse and a small working farmyard (cattle and sheep) so there may be some normal farming activity at certain times of year. Our guests have never found this to be a problem but if you do not enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of a farmyard then this is not the place for you! All three buildings are comfortable at all seasons - warm in winter, cool in summer, and provide an ideal base for touring this fascinating part of the west of England. Both Barn and Stables have VisitBritain four star ratings. We also have a Green Tourism Award. A car is essential. We ask our guests only to smoke out of doors.

For those who enjoy shopping there are numerous antique and craft shops in the area and Clarks Shopping Village is a short drive away at Street. This is a very special place in an area of England that as yet has hardly been touched by tourism. The countryside is pretty, the pace of life is gentle and the local people are friendly and helpful. Many of our guests return again and again to this lovely part of the world.
